Spectrum Questions … and Hawley Day!

Spectrum on the Move

Some Hawleyites have received visits from Spectrum salespeople. I have been asked whether those people are legitimate. Spectrum is indeed the cable/internet subsidiary of Charter Communications, which has a contract with the State to bring broadband to Hawley. I (Tinky) reached out to my contact at Charter to see if she could provide more information.

She is not sure when each section of Hawley will be ready for installation. However, she assures me that the entire town is supposed to be wired by sometime in December. She will send me information about the various packages as soon as she gets it from her colleagues, and I will share it with you.

I asked her whether there is a deadline for signing up for the service. She informs me that people can sign up in advance (now) or can wait as long as a year after the service starts being offered to make a decision.

Gonetspeed, which has been serving some people in town with internet, says it hopes to subcontract with Spectrum so that people will be able to get the Spectrum service without changing their accounts. I am pressing Gonetspeed for more details on this. I’m sure everyone’s primary question will be, “Will it cost more to stay with Gonetspeed instead of switching to Spectrum?” I will find out as quickly as I can and let you know.

At the moment, the forecast for Sunday is sunshine with a high of 78 degrees … perfect for our own’s special day.

Hawley Day is our annual reunion, open to everyone in town and beyond. This year we’re offering special programming in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary … and in honor of the spirit of creativity in our town. Everything will take place in and around the Hawley Meetinghouse at 332 East Hawley Road and the Hawley Grove across the street.

Here’s the run down:

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (more or less): Showcase of Hawley Creativity: Metalwork, Baked Goods, Art, Cider, Books from Hawley Authors, and More! Some will be for sale; all will be on view.

10 a.m. (ish): Kaffeeklatsch. Join us for nibbles, hot drinks, and chat

11 a.m. Annual Meeting and tribute to Hawleyites who have died in the past year.

12 Noon: Lunch. Firefighters will sell hot dogs and hamburgers; side dishes will be offered for free (although donations are always welcome).

1 p.m.: OF THEE I SING: a group reading of the Declaration of Independence, followed by a brief tour of American history through song
