Paid Positions
Multi-Town Conservation Agent
The Towns of Ashfield, Buckland, Hawley, Whately, and Williamsburg are seeking an energetic, initiative-taking, self-reliant individual to serve as a full-time conservation agent. This position reports to a committee of representatives from each town, with Ashfield acting as the lead town through its select board and town administrator. The shared agent position will be responsible for assisting in the towns’ enforcement of the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Acts, helping with commission/office logistical support, reviewing permit applications, attending meetings and trainings, researching grants, and other conservation-related functions. Job duties may vary slightly in each community. A full copy of the job description can be found on the Town of Ashfield’s website or here. Some evening meetings will be required.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in environmental science or related field and/or prior experience, but we are willing to train the right person. The ability to juggle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously is important as this position works in five different towns and five different conservation commissions. The shared agent is a full-time (40 hours per week) position and comes with a full benefit package including paid vacation, health insurance, and other offerings. Beginning salary is $45,000-$50,000, commensurate with experience. A valid driver’s license is required as the agent will need to travel to all five towns on a regular basis.
This is a brand-new position being funded by a state grant for the 2025 Fiscal Year. Participating towns may differ after the first year.

Election Workers
The Town of Hawley is looking for extremely part-time workers to work at elections in town. Applicants must be Hawley residents. The pay isn’t enormous, but this work is critical to the functioning of government. And the camaraderie at the polls is a lot of fun.
