May Day in Hawley
Happy May Day! As you may know, in the last century Hawley children would distribute baskets filled with spring flowers and delicious treats around their neighborhoods on May 1 … and indeed throughout the month. Consider making a small Maybasket for a neighbor or friend this month. Meanwhile, I have a couple of news items.
This coming MONDAY, May 4, is Election Day here in Hawley! Please stop in at the Town Office between 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. to vote. Bring your wallet and appetite as well as your choices for the election; the Sons & Daughters of Hawley will be holding their usual delectable bake sale.
In addition to filling the offices I mentioned in my last newsletter, Hawleyites will be asked to answer a ballot question: Should the position of Town Clerk be changed from elected to appointed? As you probably know, we have been unable to find a person from Hawley to run for this position in the last couple of years. Ellie Van Iderstine of Pittsfield has been doing a stellar job as a temporary appointee; your “yes” vote on Monday will make her a permanent appointee. Here is the warrant for the Election.
And then … Vote Again on May 11!
On the following Monday, May 11, Hawley will hold its annual Town Meeting, which gives townspeople a chance to catch up on news and to consider the budget for the next fiscal year (which begins on July 1). Please join us at the Town Office at 7 p.m. If the weather is nice, we’ll meet outside so consider bringing a folding chair. We try to get through our Town Meetings with as much speed (and humor) as we can.
Here is the Town Report, which includes the final warrant for this meeting.
The Charlemont Forum Returns
This coming Thursday, May 7, the Charlemont Forum will return to the Charlemont Federated Church. The program should interest gardeners, environmentalists, and everyone in between.
Here are some upcoming doings. I can’t wait for the Plant Sale!
That’s all for this week I hope to see you all at the election or Town Meeting.
Warmly,
Tinky Weisblat
