Lots and Lots of Events

I hope you’re all basking happily in today’s sunshine after a glorious Fourth of July. This coming week has only a couple of events, but next week is a doozy so I thought I’d send out a little previous.

First, this Thursday, July 10, is the deadline to R.S.V.P. for the Hawley-Charlemont Senior Barbecue and Picnic. The actual event will take place on Wednesday, July 23, but the members of our Council on Aging would like a preliminary head count so they can figure out how much food to buy. They always buy extra so if you don’t let them know you’ll still be welcome, but a quick phone call (voice mail is fine) or text message to Jenn Rich would be helpful. Her number is 413-475-2585.

On Saturday, July 12, at 5 p.m. Mohawk Trail Concerts will present the Atlantic Brass Quintet with works of Patrice Caratini, Jeff Scott, Roger Bellon, Shostakovich, and more. The suggested donation is $25, but any contribution is welcome.

On Wednesday, July 16, at 7 p.m. the Shelburne Falls Military Band will pay its annual visit to the Charlemont Federated Church. This community event is always free, and it’s a lot of fun. If the weather cooperates, the concert will take place on the church lawn; if not, we’ll head inside. Bring a lawn chair.

On Thursday, July 17, at 7 p.m. the Charlemont Forum will present Dark Skies: Astronomy and the Environment. Astronomy Professor Douglas Arion of Carthage College and Mountains of Stars will talk about light pollution, its harmful effects on humans and nature, and what we can do about it. This free program is funded in part by the Charlemont-Hawley Arts Council.

And on Saturday, July 19, at 7 p.m. Mohawk Trail Concerts will present its final concert of the season: the Trio Ondata will play works of Haydn, Anna Pidgorna, and Rebecca Clarke.

More events to follow, including MY next concert! Stay safe by wearing sunscreen, and enjoy the produce that is starting to come in.

Warmly,

Tinky Weisblat
