Looking for a Town Clerk and More

Dear Hawley Friends and Neighbors:

Autumn is finally here. I am reluctantly turning on my heat for part of each day, and my cat Rhubarb is VERY grateful. She loves being warm. (See photo above.) Meanwhile, Cocoa the dog is mesmerized by the way the wind makes leaves fly on our walks. I hope you and yours are enjoying apples and squash and our beautiful natural environment.

WE REALLY NEED A TOWN CLERK

As you may know, former Town Clerk Pamela Shrimpton will be running our election this November, and we are immensely grateful to her. However, we still need someone to fill in as Town Clerk until May and then (we hope) run for the position at Annual Town Meeting. Pam and I will help that person learn the job, I promise. Most weeks it doesn’t take a whole lot of hours, but it is an essential position in our tiny town. Please let me, Tinky, know if you think you might be interested (or try to persuade a friend or relative to consider the job). We have a job description we can send you!

HALLOWEEN HELP, PLEASE

We could still use some help with our Hawley Children’s Halloween party, which will take place at the Hawley Grove on Sunday, October 27, at 3 p.m. If you haven’t told me that you and your children are coming, please email me at info@townofhawley.com or call me at 413-339-4747. Even if you HAVE told me, it wouldn’t hurt to do so again. It’s just a crazy time of year.

Here are some things we could use to make the day more festive. We don’t have a budget, but if we all donate just a little bit, we should be fine.

1. Donuts
2. Cider (Do any of you press your own?)
3. Small pumpkins for the kids to decorate
4. Twine for hanging the donuts and a piñata. (My twine is hiding. I could buy more, but if you have some, please volunteer it.)
5. ANYTHING you think the kids will like…

We will gather to set up at 2 p.m. that day. Many hands make light work so please come along and help us set up.

COMING UP:

Bulky Waste Day is this Saturday, October 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at Mohawk Trail Regional School. There are fees for disposing of items—but think how much happier you and your home will be without those extra things cluttering everything up. For details, visit https://franklincountywastedistrict.org/p/70/Clean-Sweep-Bulky-Waste-Collection.

A Vaccine Clinic will be offered at Hawlemont School next Tuesday, October 22, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Bring your health insurance cards (if you have insurance) and help ward away flu and COVID. For more details, visit https://frcog.org/project/vaccine-information/.

And don’t forget that early voting starts this Saturday at the Town Office from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

That’s it for now. Stay snug….

Warmly,

Tinky Weisblat
Gal Friday
