It’s Almost Autumn

Dear Hawleyites and Friends: Here’s a rag bag of information. I hope you find some of it useful!

A Little Internet News

Those of you suffering from poor internet with WiValley/GONETSPEED may be heartened to know that our Selectmen’s letter was sent to Michael Baldino at the Massachusetts Broadband Institute. Unfortunately, he was away from the office this week. We stressed the urgency of the matter and hope he will respond upon his return.

Vaccine Clinics Coming

Next month, our public-health officials plan vaccine clinics throughout the county. The closest to us are at Hawlemont School on Tuesday, October 22, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. and at Mohawk Trail Regional School on Wednesday, October 30, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. I’ll remind you next month, I promise, but do please put these dates on your calendars. For more vaccine information, visit https://frcog.org/project/vaccine-information/.

A Gala Anniversary

Congratulations to the Fire Department! Its 40th anniversary party was a delightful occasion, with heartfelt speeches recalling the early days of the department and musing on the bonds forged over the years. Serra Root (with help!) created a terrific visual display tracing our firefighters’ history, Natalie Blais presented an official certificate recognizing the event, and Berkshire Pizzeria donated delicious pizza for supper.

Thinking Ahead to Halloween

It has been years since we held a Halloween Party for Hawley’s children, and I think it’s time to revive that tradition. I envision an event, say, the Sunday before Halloween (October 27) in the afternoon. Children (and adults!) can come in costume, parade around, bob for apples, and OF COURSE receive delicious treats. I’m looking for volunteers both to create treats (I’m thinking of making the late Shirley Raymond McMullin’s popcorn balls) and to help run the event. It should be a lot of fun. Please contact me, Tinky (339-5518; info@townofhawley.com), if you’d like to volunteer.

That’s it for this week. The next time I write to you, fall will have fallen!

Warmly,

Tinky Weisblat
