Happy Summer!
The Fourth Is Coming!
First, a word about our July 4 picnic at the Town Office. We will gather around 11 a.m. at 8 Pudding Hollow Road on that Saturday. The festivities will include appropriate readings and of course lunch. (I, Tinky, may lead us all briefly in song as well.)
The Fire Department plans to grill meat and veggie offerings. Drinks are being provided, but we hope people will bring salads, side dishes, or desserts. To help us plan, please contact the Town Office (413-339-5518, info@townofhawley.com) to let us know what you will bring. Of course, townspeople are welcome to show up with whatever they like at the last minute, but a little advance notice will help.
Whether we see you or not, all town officials hope you have a splendid Fourth.
Conservation Commission Volunteer Needed
As we approach the beginning of the new fiscal year on July 1, Hawley is looking for a new member for the town’s Conservation Commission. Chair Lloyd Crawford says that someone from East Hawley would be ideal; all the other members live in West Hawley. If you want to join and live in West Hawley, however, you will still be welcome. Please contact Lloyd at conservationcommission@townofhawley.com for more information about the commission and what membership entails.
This Thursday: The Knotweed Symposium
Those of you who have observed knotweed grow in yards and on the sides of roads know what a menace this invasive plant can be. The symposium this Thursday at Hawlemont School will talk about knotweed and perhaps provide some ways to fight it.
Symposium organizer Sheila Litchfield has provided an article about knotweed for interested parties.
Saturday at Mohawk Trail Concerts
Mohawk Trail Concerts’ summer season continues this Saturday, June 27, with a vocal program. Soprano Lizzie Shamash and mezzo-soprano Ilana Davidson will join pianist Stephen Porter to perform music by Monteverdi, Debussy, Irving Berlin (my personal favorite), and others.
That’s it for today! I hope you’re swimming as much as possible during this lovely season of the year.
Warmly,
Tinky Weisblat
