Happy Holidays to All!
Dear Hawley Friends and Neighbors:
We’re already in mid-December, and Christmas will be upon us before you know it. Thanks to the elf or elves who put a wreath up on the front of the Town Office. (I’d love to know who you are!) And thanks as always to Leslie Cooper and Lorraine McCarthy, who keep our planters looking festive all year long.
Next week, I’ll be in the office as usual on Tuesday the 17th from noon to 4 to sell dump stickers and punch cards or help in any other way I can. The following week, beginning on December 23, the office will be closed. If you need help, you may leave a message at 413-339-5518 or email me at info@townofhawley.com. I will check messages. I will be out of town from the 18th to the 28th, however, so I won’t be able to come into the office.
Recycling Tips for the Season
Our colleagues at the Solid Waste District offer the following ideas for what you can recycle … and what you can’t:
Town Clerk Situation
We can’t wait to introduce you to our new interim Town Clerk … but we HAVE to wait because she is only starting to learn the job and hasn’t established office hours yet. Stay tuned for an update early in 2025.
Home Modification Loan Program
Do you need to adapt your home for special needs?Franklin County Housing and Redevelopment recently contacted the Town Office to ask us to spread the word about the home modification loan program. Here’s what the group had to say:
This loan program was established in 1999 by the MA state legislature. HMLP funds give homeowners the opportunity to modify or adapt their homes for a household member of any age with professionally documented limitation(s) or disability. HMLP offers loans from $1,000 to $50,000 to property owners at 0%. Borrowers sign a promissory note, and a mortgage is recorded as a lien against the property to secure these loans. HMLP can also lend from $1,000 to $30,000 to owners of manufactured or mobile homes. Landlords with fewer than 10 units may be eligible for a 3% loan for a tenant who has a functional limitation. Borrowers sign a promissory note and a UCC-1 is filed against the home to secure these loans.
Social-Security Scam Alert
The Northwestern District Attorney’s office is asking residents to beware of a current social-security scam. See the flyer below.
And … as long as I’m writing … a reminder about tomorrow’s concert!
That’s it for now. Have a joyous holiday season. It’s getting darker, but faith, friendship, carols, and cookies will get us through until the days begin getting longer again. See you next year!
Warmly,
Tinky Weisblat
