February Creeps In

Dear Hawley Friends and Neighbors:

Things are still fairly quiet as we approach another frigid weekend, but I have a few items to share.

Special Town Meeting

If you haven’t already done so, please mark your calendars for Monday, February 23, at 7 p.m. (snow date: Monday, March 2!). Our brief (we hope!) Special Town Meeting has two warrant articles.

One starts the process of changing the Town Clerk’s position from elected to appointed. (You may recall that one in town was willing to run for the job last May, and our appointed clerk, Ellie Van Iderstine, has been doing a great job.)

The other enables our Treasurer to enter into tax-title agreements.

We hope to get a quorum for the meeting easily. Please consider joining us! Here is the full warrant for the meeting.

Wells Scholarships

Students who have resided in Hawley for at least two years are eligible to apply to the Fred W. Wells Scholarship program, which provides funds for people hoping to “obtain an education in agricultural or mechanical subjects to better fit them for such work, or for one of the regularly recognized professions.”

Application forms are available from Tinky at the Town Office or here.

Applications are due on March 20. For more information, visit the Wells website.

Watercolor Class

Mary Ann will be back at the library this Saturday for another creative session!

Finally, a Couple of Warnings:

First, the Registry of Motor Vehicles is cautioning the public to beware of scam texts that claim that money is owed for motor vehicle violations. If you get such a text, do not click on any link.

And, the District Attorney’s Office warns us about bogus investment schemes.

That’s it for now. I’ll be back next week with information about a Dugway information session and much more. Stay warm!
