Hawley Day!

August 9 @ 10:30 am - 2:30 pm

The Annual Reunion of the Sons & Daughters of Hawley will take on a seminquincentennial flair this year. The day begins with coffee and pastries at 10 or 10:30, followed by the group’s annual meeting at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m. Hawley’s Fire Department will sell grilled foods, and the Sons & Daughters will provide salads, side dishes, and drinks.

All day in and around the Hawley Grove creative Hawleyites will display (and in some cases sell) the fruits of their labors, from cookies to metalwork.

At 1 p.m. soprano/historian Tinky Weisblat, pianist Jerry Noble, and high-school senior Landon Clark will present “Of Thee I Sing: A Tour of American History through Song.” Townspeople will read the Declaration of Independence, and Tinky will introduce a variety of songs that mark important trends in U.S. History. The audience will be encouraged to sing along with several numbers, including “Yankee Doodle” and “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

Everything is free except for the Fire Department’s foods and the sales of the creative works. Of course, visitors are welcome to contribute to the Sons & Daughters of Hawley, the town’s historical society. The afternoon program is co-sponsored by the Charlemont-Hawley Arts Council and Mass Humanities.
