Dump News, Corn Maze, and Congratulations
Bulky Waste Day Is Next Weekend!

Historical Commission Volunteers Welcome
Hawley’s Historical Commission is looking for a new member. No specialized knowledge is needed, although a love for history is a plus. Contact me, Tinky, for more details.
Congratulations to Hawley!
Hardworking town officials have secured two important grants for Hawley. First, thanks to the Selectboard and to the ever stalwart Lloyd Crawford, the state has awarded the town funds to do preliminary design work (and get more community feedback) on the Dugway. Actually, this award comes thanks not just to town officials but also the Franklin Regional Council of Governments and to the many townspeople and neighbors who attended the community listening session in May 2024, providing much needed input. There will be more listening sessions (and more food!) in time. Stay tuned.
And Hawley’s firefighters, along with their counterparts in Cummington, have secured a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant to purchase new airpacks for both fire departments. Airpacks provide clean air for firefighters venturing into smoke-filled areas. The ones our department has are woefully out of date so the new ones are very welcome.
Online Safety Class
This Thursday, October 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. all are welcome to attend a class about online safety at the library.
Protection from Seasonal Ailments
Another library program, on November 1, will be led by the intrepid Clare Pearson of Charlemont, who knows how to stay healthy.
Spooky Times Are Coming!
Halloween is coming! It’s one of my favorite days of the year; my house is already decorated, even though I don’t get any trick or treaters.
Yesterday friends told me how much scary fun they had had at the Hicks Corn Maze “Haunted Night” Saturday night. These frightful evenings will continue every Friday and Saturday evening (weather permitting) until the end of the month. They are recommended for people 12 and over.

And please don’t forget our own Halloween party, now (thanks to Peter Beck) dubbed HAWLEY WEEN. Children and adults are welcome at the Hawley Grove on Sunday, October 26, beginning at 2 p.m. We’ll need lots of help and yummy contributions as well. Contact me, Tinky, for more information.
Credit Freeze?
The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office offers this safety tip:
That’s all I have for now. No information yet chimney cleaning … but I’m told it’s coming!
Warmly,
