Doings In and About Town
Keep Your Eyes Open for Progress
As many of you know, Spectrum/Charter Communications is preparing to deliver Broadband to Hawley households. Charter’s contract with the state stipulates that this should happen by the end of the year. So don’t be surprised if you see trucks, equipment, and crews around town in the coming weeks. They may not all say Charter or Spectrum; there could be sub-contractors involved. But they will be doing our best to help Hawley and Hawleyites.
Mohawk Trail Concerts’ Final Offering of the Season
For the final concert of the 2026 Summer Season, Mohawk Trail Concerts will present the brilliant young pianist Sahun Sam Hong. Praised by the Sindelfinger Zeitung as “Imaginative, intoxicating… high voltage,” and called “Bold, with imagination and charm” by the New York Classical Review, he returns to the Mohawk Trail Concerts stage in a program featuring Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 109, Schumann’s Papillons Op. 2, and Schubert’s Impromptus Op. 90.
The concert will take place this Saturday, July 18, at 5 p.m. at the Charlemont Federated Church and will be followed by the church’s annual pie sale.
Plastic Free July Event
Lawns Into Meadows
On Saturday, July 25, at 5 p.m. the Charlemont Federated Church will host local author Owen Wormser in conjunction with the Shantigar Foundation in Rowe. The owner of Abound Design in Conway, Wormser won the Nautilus Book Award for his book Lawns into Meadows: Creating a Regenerative Landscape.
He will talk about the book and about the distinctions he makes between lawns and meadows. Hint: he says, “A meadow is what can happen when you give the earth a chance to heal itself.” The talk is free. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing.
And … Coming Up! (more information will come your way next week)
HAWLEY DAY will take place on Sunday, August 9. And mark your calendars for a Special Town Meeting on Monday, August 17.
That’s all for today. Stay cool!
