Come to the Town Office on Monday!

Special Town Meeting

As many of you know, there will be a Special Town Meeting at the Town Office this coming Monday, August 17, at 7 p.m.. The warrant has only two items, and one of them may get passed over. It won’t take long. Nevertheless, it’s important for townspeople to stay informed about what’s going on in town … and for our officials to get these important votes in order to hone the budget. So please join us.

Democratic Candidates’ Forum

In case you’re itching to go out the following evening, Tuesday, August 18, all are invited to a Democratic candidates’ forum at Hawlemont School in Charlemont from 6 to 8 p.m. Here is the lineup so far:

  • For US House Representative (MA-01)  The Democrats in Charlemont have a commitment from  Jeromie Whalen, who is challenging Richard Neal for the party nomination on September 1. Representative Neal has been invited, but his campaign has not made a commitment to date.
  • For representative in Massachusetts General Court (state legislature), 1st Franklin District:  This is an open seat and has been vacant since the resignation of Natalie Blais in January.  Corinne Coryat, a veteran of Blais’s staff, and Lora Wondolowski, current chair of the Greenfield City Council, are slated to attend.
  • For Governor’s Council, District 8: The Charlemont Democrats have reached out to Tara Jacobs, the incumbent, and are hoping that she will be able to attend. Her challenger, Mike Fenton, is interested but will be unable to attend. He is planning to attend an upcoming forum in Shelburne Falls, however.

Tech Support at the Tyler Memorial Library

Former tech-support guru Zorah Miller has graduated from high school and will no longer be available on Thursdays at the library. Free tech support continues on a part-time basis, however.

Tech Conversation about Artificial Intelligence

On Thursday, September 3, at 5:30 p.m., Cyber Seniors and the Tyler Memorial Library will present a free community conversation about A.I., something that is in the news constantly these days. Come learn and ask questions about it.

That’s it for this week. I hope you’re all enjoying the perfect summer weather we’re having … and feasting on corn, tomatoes, and peaches.

Warmly,

Tinky Weisblat
