Chimney Cleaning Plus
Dear Neighbors and Friends–There’s a lot going on in the next week or so. The calendar seems to be realizing that snow is coming (actually, it has already arrived, at least in small quantities!) so it’s cramming in all sorts of events. Please take note of the dates below and come when you can.
Chimney Cleaning
Hawley’s Volunteer Fire Department is hoping to clean chimneys for Hawleyites this coming Saturday, November 15. If you wish to have your chimney cleaned, please call or email me, Tinky, at the Town Office (413-339-5518; info@townofhawley.com). I will make sure you get on the list.
This is a free service. However, our firefighters always appreciate a donation to the Hawley Firefighters Association.
Health Van on the Way
In cooperation with Mohawk Trail Regional High School and the Mary Lyon Foundation, the Community Health Center of Franklin County is about to start sending its mobile van to the school once a month. This service will begin next week.
This month the van will be offering primary-care access for three days, behavioral-health services for one day, and a flu and covid vaccine clinic. The QR code on the flyer below can be used by folks looking to become new patients or by existing patients looking to be offered services. People wishing to make appointments or get more information may also consult the CHFC website.
The CFC participates in many commercial insurance plans, including Medicare, Commonwealth Care, and Mass Health. It also offers a sliding scale for those who find themselves without insurance.
Sustainability Study Meetings
All are invited to a community meeting about the 2 Districts, 8 Towns Study next Wednesday, November 19, at 6:30 p.m. Come make your voice heard! If this date doesn’t work for you, feel free to come to another session another day at another school. (See the flyer below.)
Tech Class at the Library
There will be a free class on using Google Drive next Wednesday, November 19, at 2 p.m. at the Tyler Memorial Library. Increasing numbers of people are working with Google drive and related tools; this class aims to demystify the process.
SNAP Updates
The federal government is supposedly getting ready to reopen. Nevertheless, there are still a lot of people in need of food assistance. Senator Markey’s office has provided a link to this website so people can check the status of SNAP benefits.
Meanwhile, if you are in need, remember that Good Neighbors will hold its Thanksgiving food distribution next Tuesday, November 18, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Federated Church on Main Street (Route 2) in Charlemont.
And if you wish to help fight food insecurity, you may send a check to Good Neighbors (P.O. Box 248, Charlemont, MA 01339) or donate to the Mary Lyon Foundation or the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.
Thinking Ahead to Thanksgiving
If you are looking for a meal and companionship on Thanksgiving, please know that the Federated Church on Route 2 in Charlemont is hosting a community Thanksgiving dinner this year. To sign up to come or to help out, call the church office at 413-339-4294. Happy pre-Thanksgiving to all!
As if all that weren’t enough, don’t forget tree planting this Saturday and the vaccine clinic on Monday at Hawlemont School!
That’s it for this week. Stay warm and dry if you can!
