Assessment Information and Voting
Dear Hawleyites and Friends:
Happy November. The landscape is getting a bit grey, but we still have ridiculously warm weather! I managed to hang my laundry outside this morning, something I hardly ever get to do in November. Here are odds and ends of information you may need in the days to come.
Revaluation Information
Congratulations to our Board of Assessors (and to their stalwart helper, Virginia Gabert) on finishing the massive, every-three-year revaluation of property in Hawley. Check the Assessors’ page of our website to see both real-estate and personal-property values as of January 1, 2024.
You can also find out how you can contact, or meet with, the board beginning this coming Monday to get more information about, and/or dispute, the valuation of your property. There’s lots of detail on the web page; please visit it.
Ed, Jeff, Wayne, and Virginia, we appreciate all your hard work!
Don’t Forget to Vote
The polls will be open on Election Day (Tuesday, November 5) from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hawley Town Office. Make your voice heard—and support the Sons & Daughters of Hawley and the Charlemont-Hawley Arts Council by purchasing baked goods.
Thank you, election workers, bakers, and especially Pam Shrimpton, who has returned as interim Town Clerk to run this important election.
If you somehow missed early voting and can’t come in on Tuesday, you may make an appointment with me, Tinky, to vote early over the weekend. I don’t have a lot of availability, but I do want to make sure everyone who wants to vote gets the chance. I won’t be at the office until Monday so please give me a call at home at 413-339-4747 (just not early in the morning!), and we’ll work something out.
Schedule Changes Next Week
Because of the Election, I will be holding my office hours this coming Monday from noon to 4 p.m.
Our Tax Collector, Betty Nichols, will be in the office on Wednesday, November 6, from 2 to 4 p.m.
And our Board of Selectmen will meet on Wednesday, November 6, at 7 p.m. instead of on Tuesday.
A Happy Halloween Happening
Our Hawley Halloween Party last weekend was a blast. We had 14 or 15 kids (from infants to teens) and lots of adults. Activities included face painting, mummy-wrapping, a sawdust hunt, work on a very obstreperous piñata, bobbing for doughnuts, and much more. Thanks to all those who contributed time, refreshments, supplies, decor, and of course candy to this fun-filled event. It’s always heartening to see Hawley’s community spirit in action.
That’s it for now. I hope to see you this weekend at Cider Days at Hawley’s own Headwater Cider!
Warmly,
Tinky Weisblat
