A Few Items to Consider

Monday’s Election

We’re looking forward to seeing Hawleyites at the polls next week. Remember, the election is this coming Monday, May 5, from 11:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. Come vote, pick up your town report, say hi to neighbors, and maybe buy something tasty at the Sons and Daughters of Hawley bake sale!

If you would rather read the Town Report online (or at least download it), here is the link to that document.

The warrant for our Annual Town Meeting (Monday, May 12, at 7 p.m.) may be found here.

And here is the election warrant.

Happy reading!

Charlemont Forum

Last night’s panel discussion about immigration for Museum on Main Street: Voices and Votes at Mohawk Trail Regional School was moving and enlightening. Join the MoMS crew and the Charlemont Forum for another thoughtful discussion this coming Thursday, May 8, at 7 p.m. at the school library. And don’t forget to look at the Smithsonian exhibit while you’re there!

Sustainability Study News

The 2D8T steering committee has made a recommendation to school committees to explore a single campus multi-building model for Pre-K through High School. Nothing is happening overnight, and nothing will happen without an eight-town consensus. The potential changes would happen in five to eight years with thorough planning and intentional preparation. The 2D8T Steering Committee is concerned that financial pressures will build in the near-term and that an interim solution, including the closure of one or more elementary schools, may be required as an intermediate step. Principal Amber Tulloch and Hawlemont School Committee Chair Ken Bertsch are available to field feedback and questions.  See the LINK here for a letter from the 2D8T committee.

Spring Fling

I know this is a busy time of year and RSVP-in can be hard, but we have received very few “yes” calls and emails about Hawley’s Spring Fling. As you may recall, on Saturday, May 17, beginning at 11 a.m. Hawleyites of all ages are invited to make May Baskets, eat lunch, talk about the town, and sing a few songs. We hope a lot of you can at least stop in! We do need some idea of how many people are coming in order to plan lunch. So please email me, Tinky, at info@townofhawley.com, or call 413-339-5518 to reserve a spot!
