The Charlemont-Hawley Arts Council, also known as the Local Cultural Council, works to distribute funds from the state to local artists and organizations doing work in the arts, humanities, and sciences. Its budget varies annually depending on the vagaries of the legislature. It helps local schools and such organizations as the Sons & Daughters of Hawley put on programs that might otherwise be difficult to manage financially. Its yearly application deadline falls around October 15 (a little later if the 15th is on a weekend).
The council is particularly receptive to programs that are educational and intergenerational. It also places a strong priority on programs taking place in, or helmed by residents of, Charlemont and Hawley. The council is politically neutral. To see a list of recently funded programs, or to apply for funding, visit the council’s web page. Email the council through the town.
