Hawley E-News: Thunderstorm Edition

Dear Fellow Hawleyites:

I hope you’re surviving the muggy, stormy weather and looking forward to the many events to come.

Fire Department News

Speaking of events to come, the Fire Department’s birthday celebration has been postponed until sometime in the fall. You will know the details as soon as I do. Meanwhile, all of us owe thanks to Window World of Western Massachusetts. Our fire chief Greg Cox, called the company to ask for a quotation for installing windows upstairs in the Fire Station. The owner came and basically donated the windows. The photo above, courtesy of the Fire Department, shows new windows with casings finished off by Brandon Root and Jacob Desrosiers. Pretty wonderful!

Meanwhile, get ready for ….

Hawley Day

This coming Sunday, August 11, will see the annual reunion of the Sons & Daughters of Hawley at the Hawley Meeting House and Grove on East Hawley Road. (Even if you’re not a member of that organization, you are welcome to attend!)

The day will begin with the traditional kaffeeklatsch at 10 a.m. Stop by to see your neighbors and nibble on some homemade baked goods. The Sons & Daughters’ annual meeting will begin at 11. It will include a tribute to the Cox Family, who are celebrating the 101st anniversary of their arrival in Hawley that weekend. The Coxes are providing the lunch that will follow the meeting, during which Small Change will entertain us all. There will be odds and ends of games in and around the Grove and Meeting House, and I believe there will be excursions to the Charcoal Kiln and other sites. It should be a lively day!

Warnings

Our public-health colleagues have sent along a warning to beware of animals that may be rabid at this time of year, particularly bats. This fact sheet can give you more information about rabies.

And the District Attorney’s Office offers this warning about a package scam. We all have to be very careful not to click strange email links.

That’s all I have for now. I hope you’re all staying as comfortable as you can … and looking forward to the Heath Fair and other local happenings. Enjoy the wonderful local produce!

Warmly,

Your Gal Friday Tinky
