School Survey and Summer Activities

Dear Hawley Neighbors and Friends:

I hope you’re staying cool and taking time to enjoy these long, long days. Here are a few updates.

School Stuff

Most readers should have received a flyer in the mail asking them to complete the new survey from the Mohawk/Hawlemont Sustainability Study. It is reproduced below. PLEASE take the time to fill out the survey.

Meanwhile, Hawlemont School Committee Peggy Travers suggests reading this recent article in the Recorder that details some of the challenges in funding our schools, a crucial budgetary item for towns like Hawley. It also includes a link to a forum on the topic on Tuesday, June 18.

The Charlemont Forum

Speaking for forums (fora?), the Charlemont Forum returns next Thursday with another stimulating program. As usual, the program is free, although contributions are always welcome.

Summer Concert Season Arrive

And … Mohawk Trail Concerts will begin its summer chamber-music series at the Charlemont Federated Church this Sunday, June 16, at 5 p.m. Up-and-coming virtuoso pianist Sahun Sam Hong will play Glass, Schubert, Copland, and Brahms in the air-conditioned Federated Church. The suggested contribution is $25, but all are welcome to pay any fee they can.

That’s it for this week. Happy Juneteenth on Wednesday. As you may know, it’s traditional to eat something RED on Juneteenth. I suggest my once-a-year favorite, Strawberry Shortcake.

Your Gal Friday,
Tinky
