2026 Is Here!
Happy New Year to All!
I hope that you are all surviving the ice and the cold and making fun, reasonable resolutions for 2026 … and that you experience epiphanies of one sort or another on January 6. I have a few news items for you today.
Please Help Find Farley!
Farley, a 13-year-old canine resident of Hawley, has been missing since December 28. He is a friendly husky/malamute mix, white with brown and grey markings. Farley weighs 75 pounds. He disappeared near the Berkshire East solar fields, between East and Bozrah Roads. If you find him, do not call or chase him; that might cause him to run away. Instead, please call Yvette at 413-768-0373 to let her know where you saw him.
A person who helps look for lost dogs suggests that residents look for dog tracks near any outbuildings on their property. Farley could be scared and hiding somewhere.
Bozrah Road to Be Closed Next Thursday
On Thursday, January 8, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Bozrah Road will be closed so that tree work can be done in Bozrah Cemetery. Please make sure to avoid driving there during those hours.
News from Hawlemont School
Sustainability Update: Residents are all invited to Join the Envisioning Committee – Help Shape the Future of Our Schools. The school committee wants to preserve what our community values most, expand opportunities for all learners, and enhance our schools with new possibilities that reflect the needs of today’s students and families. Committee members will collaborate with educators, community members, and district leaders to imagine what a terrific, inclusive, and future-ready learning environment could look like. Please complete this form to express your interest no later than January 9.
The school committee wants more input from residents about all school matters. You do not have to attend a meeting to share your thoughts, questions, and opinions. You can email the committee via Chair Ken Bertsch (kbertsch@mtrsd.org). Ken will pass along your input to the entire group for consideration.
Social Security Scams
The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office reports that elders in our area are still receiving calls and emails related to social-security scans. See the flyer below.
That office also still has some 2026 calendars available, featuring tips for avoiding scams and other information for older adults. If you’re interested in receiving a calendar, please let me (Tinky) know; I can have it sent to the Town Office.
Jewelry Making
And don’t forget that another session of crafting with Mary Ann Adams is on its way!
That’s it for now. Bundle up, and don’t forget to thank our road crew for all their hard work keeping our roads as clear as possible when you see them.
Warmly,
Tinky Weisblat
